94-year-old woman robbed by fake construction workers in Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale police search for 2 men connected to robbery

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A 94-year-old woman was robbed in her Fort Lauderdale home Thursday evening by men posing as construction workers, police said.

Fort Lauderdale police said the men gained access to the home, just off Las Olas Boulevard, by telling the victim they needed to look at damage to her sea wall.

Police said the woman led them to her backyard and one of the men sprayed some sort of substance on the victim's hands. As they escorted her into the home to help her wash off, one of them slipped away and stole several pieces of expensive jewelry, police said.

The men left in an older-model pickup truck.

Police said the woman was not injured. The men in question are said to be about 50 and 30 years old and were wearing safety vests and hard hats.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call police.
