1 in custody after TD Bank robbery in Miami Beach

Authorities say Johnnie Cooper, 47, claimed he had weapon

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – One person is in custody after a TD Bank was robbed Monday morning in Miami Beach.

The robbery was reported shortly before 11 a.m. at 350 Lincoln Road.

Sky 10 was above the scene as a police car was parked in front of the building.

Local 10 News reporter Neki Mohan, reporting from the scene, said the suspect, identified as Johnnie Cooper, 47, of Miami Gardens, told a bank teller that he was armed and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Authorities said Cooper was found about 10 minutes later and was taken into custody.

No one was injured in the robbery. The bank was temporarily shut down as authorities dusted for fingerprints and questioned those inside the building. 

The Miami Beach Police Department assisted the FBI in the investigation.

Cooper remains in federal custody and is expected to make his first court appearance on Tuesday.
