Cyclists honor swim instructor who died

Colleen Berzok Memorial Ride campaign for cyclist safety awareness

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The south Florida cycling community united Sunday morning at Holiday Park in Fort Lauderdale to honor one of their own and spread awareness for cyclist safety.

Earlier this month, 37-year-old Colleen Berzok was hit and killed by a driver while she was riding her bike near Sunrise Boulevard and A1A.

The Colleen Berzok Memorial Ride campaign spread through social media but quickly turned into something even greater.

To honor the family's wishes, organizer Frank Tirado set out to spread the word to cyclists everywhere. Their goal through this ride is to send a message to city officials to implement better road regulations for cyclist safety.

The word spread quickly, even reaching cyclists abroad.

"We have people from London, Canada, Spain and all over Latin America who are riding at the same time as us today. That's amazing," says Tirado of the growing support he's received on social media.
