Van crashes into pharmacy in Miami after failing to stop for police

Driver taken into custody

MIAMI – Police are investigating after a van crashed into the side of a pharmacy in Miami Thursday afternoon after failing to stop for police.

The incident was reported shortly before 4 p.m. at a Pharma Topcare located at 4310 NW Seventh Ave.

Sky 10 was above the scene as the van's front end was pressed against the wall of the building. The vehicle did not enter the store although a large hole could be seen near the entrance.

Local 10 News reporter Shyann Malone, reporting from the scene, said police attempted to pull over the green van, which was carrying three children, but the driver refused to stop.

Malone said the driver sped up, lost control of the van and crashed into the building.

An employee who answered the phone at the business told Local 10 News that no employees were injured in the crash.

Paramedics were seen attending to the children under a tree while detectives searched the van.

"It could have been a lot worse," the children's aunt Jameelah Ahmad told Local 10 News. "I was very surprised that they were buckled in…they are a little shaken up but that's about it."

One person was taken by ambulance to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The driver was taken into custody.
