Martin County robbery suspect arrested in Miami, planned to flee to Cuba, detectives say

Detectives say Michael Wayne Lawson, who was wanted in connection with an armed robbery in Martin County, was arrested in Miami and planned to flee to Cuba.

MIAMI – A man accused of robbing a thrift store in Martin County was arrested in Miami, where he planned to flee for Cuba, Martin County Sheriff's Office detectives said.

Detectives arrested Michael Wayne Lawson, 30, outside a Miami drug store Thursday night after getting a tip that he was in the area.

Lawson confessed to the robbery at Mi Pueblo Thrift Store and said he had plans to leave for Cuba on Friday, detectives said.

A gun was found inside Lawson's backpack, detectives said.

Lawson, who is wanted on outstanding warrants in Idaho and Texas, was brought back to Martin County. He faces a charge of armed robbery with a deadly weapon and is being held without bond.
