Hialeah man arrested in armed robbery spree

Giorgi Guillama, 36, accused of robbing two Hialeah convenience stores

HIALEAH, Fla. – A man from Hialeah was arrested Sunday in connection with two armed robberies that occurred over the weekend.

Giorgi Guillama, 36, faces two counts of armed robbery and one count of child abuse.

The robberies were reported Saturday afternoon at a convenience store at 17 W. 17th St. and the Super Mini Market at 5 E. 44th St.

According to an arrest report, in both robberies, Guillama waited until all the customers had left before walking up to the counter and demanding all the cash from inside the register from an employee while pointing a gun at the victim.

Police said a girl was standing near the victim in the second robbery, resulting in the child abuse charge. About $1,000 was taken in the second robbery. It's unclear how much money was taken in the first incident.

According to the report, Guillama was pulled over in his black BMW Sunday night, and officers found the handgun believed to have been used in the robberies inside the vehicle's glove compartment.

Detectives said Guillama provided a taped confession of the robberies.

Police believe Guillama may be responsible for other robberies in the area. Anyone with information that can help detectives is asked to call police.
