Officer 'happily obliged'

IOWA CITY, Iowa – A 20-year-old Iowa man accused of driving while under the influence of marijuana asked the arresting officer if he would pose for a selflie.

Authorities said Gilbert Phelps, 20, was pulled over for speeding just after 2 a.m. on Aug. 6 when Iowa City Officer Ben Hektoen noticed "an odor of ingested alcohol" coming from the vehicle,
the Iowa City Press-Citizen reported.

Phelps admitted to smoking marijuana before driving his car and agreed to take a breath test and evaluation for marijuana intoxication. Phelps then asked Hektoen if he would take a Snapchat selfie, according to the criminal complaint. The officer "happily obliged."

Phelps was charged with operating while under the influence and released on bond. Phelps is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 17.
