MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A mother continues to grieve for her 20-year-old son, who was killed Sunday in a shooting that involved three vehicles, one of which crashed into a canal in southwest Miami-Dade County.
"People took my son's life. My son won't come back again," Wagynes Flerilien's mother said. "My son is a sweet boy. Everything he said to me was, 'Yes, mommy.'"
Flerilien's mother did not want to be identified, but said her son had recently graduated from high school with plans to be a chef.
Detectives said his body was found inside his white Nissan Altima, which was partially submerged in a canal near Southwest 268th Street and Southwest 115th Court.
Flerilien's mother said her son purchased the car three weeks ago.
Miami-Dade police said the gunman shot at the Nissan and a gray Infiniti, striking three people.
"The Infiniti was shot at," Detective Jennifer Capote told Local 10 News. "When that vehicle sped off, the remaining two vehicles continued eastbound."
Capote said Flerilien's car lost control and veered into the canal. A man who was driving the Nissan and two others in the Infiniti were wounded, but their injuries were not life-threatening.
Police are still searching for the gunman and the vehicle used in the shooting.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
