MIAMI – A 27-year-old Honduran man wanted on a rape charge in Santa Barbara County, California, was arrested while passing through Miami International Airport last month.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman Keith Smith said the man was taken into custody July 26, after he presented himself at the airport's customs area.

Smith said CBP officers fingerprinted the suspect and confirmed that he had an outstanding warrant in California.

"CBP officers work closely with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to make sure wanted fugitives face justice," port director Christopher Maston said. "We remain vigilant and will continue to proactively address threats, minimize vulnerabilities and maximize security."

The suspect was turned over to the Miami-Dade Police Department for extradition to California.

His identity has not been released.
