Video shows woman dragged in street during Wynwood robbery

Police searching for attacker

MIAMI – Police are looking for a woman who attacked another woman in Wynwood during a daytime robbery last month.

The woman told police that she was walking down the street carrying a large purse July 6 when she was mugged, and the incident was caught on surveillance video.

The attack came just two days after Thomas Quass, 41, was fatally shot while he was walking to his car after leaving a nightclub with his girlfriend. Police have still not found the armed robber in that case.

Valentina Baiz told Local 10 News that the attack happened so fast that she didn't have time to think.

The 18-year-old freshman at Florida International University said she and a friend were walking along Northwest 26th Street near Northwest Third Avenue when she was attacked.

Surveillance video shows a woman jump out of a passing Mitsubishi Galant and attack Baiz, who was carrying a large Louis Vuitton purse.

Baiz refused to give up her purse and was dragged across the street by the woman.

A passerby witnessed the attack and told the woman he would call the police.

"They were laughing as they drove away," witness Naomi Alonso told Local 10.

Baiz said she is still shaken by what happened, telling Local 10 she moved to Miami to escape the violence in her native Venezuela.

No arrests have been made.
