FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The son of a man accused of killing his wife took the stand Tuesday in his father's trial.
Brian Oulton, who never looked at his father, Robert Oulton, testified that it was two days before he found out that his mother was murdered, and two more days before he found out that his father was accused of killing her.
Robert Oulton is on trial for the 2010 murder of Yvonne Oulton.
The prosecution showed the Broward County courtroom emotional moments from the police interrogation room, as Brian Oulton told his father that he loved him.
The prosecution said Robert Oulton beat his wife of 40 years to death in April 2010, leaving her to die in the family van.
Surveillance video shows some of the final moments of her life on Easter Sunday.
The defense argued that her death was manslaughter and not premeditated first-degree murder.
According to police, Oulton played poker at a casino after killing his wife and called his son later that night to tell him that his mother was missing.
After a brief search, Brian Oulton said his father led him straight to the van and her body.
The prosecution rested its case Tuesday, and the judge sent the jury home for the evening. They'll return at 9 a.m. Wednesday, when they will learn whether the defendant plans to take the stand in his defense.
