POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – The Broward Sheriff's Office is searching for two people believed to be involved in at least 30 burglaries throughout Pompano Beach since May.
The latest burglaries were reported Monday at a Mobil gas station at 1481 S. Pompano Parkway and a Vapor N Smoke store at 1430 E. Atlantic Blvd.
Deputies said surveillance video shows one person waiting in a newer-model white Nissan Altima while a man breaks into the businesses with a "window punch" device. Video from several of the businesses show the thief heading straight to the cash register once he's inside.
The owner of Vapor N Smoke told Local 10 News that he is considering putting steel bars outside his front windows.
"I hope they catch them and that they don't do this to other people who are working hard," Adam Fayad said. "They're probably lazy and they don't want to work, and they want to take easy money."
Other businesses that have been targeted include:
Café La Buca at 451 S. Cypress Road.
Croissant'licious Bakery at 345 W. McNab Road.
Ruby's by the Sea at 2608 N. Ocean Blvd.
Detectives said one burglar appears to be 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds. The second person involved in the burglaries stayed in the car in each incident and was not clearly captured on video.
Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to call Detective Pedro Cordero at 954-786-4284 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. A reward of up to $3,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
