CORAL GABLES, Fla. – After a year of having "interim" in front of his title, Coral Gables Police Chief Ed Hudak Jr. is getting the job full time.

The city announced Friday that Hudak has been named to the position permanently.

Hudak, a 26-year veteran of the Coral Gables Police Department, has served as interim police chief since last September. He joined the department in 1988.

"I make this appointment not only because of the highly responsive manner in which you have served the public this past year, as evidenced by the strong outpouring of support on behalf of this appointment, but also because of your personal commitment you have provided to me that you will lead at all times with honor, fairness and integrity," City Manager Cathy Swanson-Rivenbark said.

Hudak said he appreciates "the privilege to continue to serve" and is "ready to embrace a partnership" between the city and the community "to better serve and protect us all."
