Gloria Estefan to perform for Pope Francis in New York

Grammy Award-winning musician scheduled to take part in festivities before Mass at Madison Square Garden

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Gloria Estefan is among a group of celebrities who will be performing for Pope Francis during his visit to New York.

The Grammy Award-winning musician and former Miami Sound Machine lead singer will perform for the pope before his Sept. 25 Mass at Madison Square Garden.

Estefan joins fellow performers Jennifer Hudson, Harry Connick Jr., Martin Sheen and others for "A Journey in Faith," presented by the Archdiocese of New York.

This isn't the first time the Star Island resident has been invited to sing for a pope. Estefan sang "Mas Alla" for Pope John Paul II in 1995.

Estefan first met Pope Francis in 2013.
