Rodent issues force closure at Wyndham Hotel in Deerfield Beach

Roaches found at Hotel Astor in South Beach

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – State records show serious issues at two upscale South Florida hotels last week.

Records show a roach issue at the Hotel Astor in South Beach and a rodent issue at the Wyndham Hotel in Deerfield Beach.

Both places had food service areas shut.

Rodent issues were also found in the kitchen at Kam Long Chinese Restaurant in Miami.

Below is a list of the places and some of their violations. All of the places have been allowed to re-open following ordered clean up and re-inspections.

"Roach activity present as evidenced by approximately 20 live roaches found. Observed live roaches inside unused oven in kitchen and crawling on floor/baseboards in kitchen."

"Accumulation of black/green mold-like substance in the interior of the ice machine."

"Rodent activity present as evidenced by rodent droppings found. Observed approximately 29 fresh and moist rodent droppings on top of dish machine, 1 fresh and moist rodent dropping on drain board at dish machine, observed 2 dry rodent droppings on top of food can on shelving unit by side prep area near Walk-in cooler, 4 fresh and moist rodent droppings by bread storage shelving near cook line, and 4 dry rodent droppings at bar."

The resort's general manager, Julian Felder, released a statement to Local 10 News Monday that said in part, "As safety and well-being of our guests and patrons is of the utmost importance to us, we have immediately brought Orkin, our exterminating company on site to do whatever necessary to correct this problem. They have inspected the entire area and set up numerous traps and bait stations. At the same time, we have completely cleaned and sanitized entire kitchen and restaurant."

"Rodent activity present as evident by approximately 50 fresh rodent droppings found in storage area (where flour, salt, msg and rice are present), also approximately 20 fresh rodent droppings in preparation area and approximately 10 fresh rodent droppings in dry storage area (cans stored in this area) Observed also (too many to count) dry rodent droppings all around."

"Rodent bait not contained in a covered, tamper-resistant bait station."

"Stop Sale issued on potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food due to temperature abuse. Ham 51° fried chicken 52° raw chicken 49° beef 55°."

"Food stored in a prohibited area. Stored in cardboard."

"Food stored on floor."

"Rodent activity present as evidenced by rodent droppings found. I found 5 hard dropping on dry storage under stairway **Repeat Violation**."

"Roach activity present as evidenced by approximately 20 roaches found at kitchen wall by the steam table ( inside of the electricity plug) 3 live roaches by the metal gas connection at the wall 3 live roaches inside of the electricity panel closet."

"Two dead roaches on premises inside of the delivery station cabinet Operator removed."

"Equipment in poor repair. RIC by the oven pizza with standing water."
