Man drives off in stolen car as pregnant ex-girlfriend clings to hood

Woman was unharmed, boyfriend arrested

HOUSTON – A man is facing charges after police said he nearly ran over his ex-girlfriend Wednesday afternoon on a Houston-area highway Gulf Freeway.

Witnesses captured the incident on cellphone video on I-45. The video shows a woman, Jessica Alvarado, clinging to the hood of a moving SUV on the frontage road.

Police identified the man behind the wheel as Anthony Adan Escobedo. The 33-year-old is charged with assaulting a family member.

According to Houston police, Escobedo, 31, is Alvarado's ex-boyfriend. Investigators said he stole a car that Alvarado had borrowed, and she found him in it a short time later at a Shell gas station. Police said Alvarado yelled at Escobedo to get out of the vehicle. When he refused, police said she jumped onto the hood to prevent him from leaving.

In the video, Escobedo continues driving as Alvarado clings to the hood.

A witness saw what was happening and called 911. Paramedics took Alvarado to the hospital with minor scrapes and bruises.

Police found Escobedo and the stolen vehicle a short time later.

Alvarado is 32 weeks' pregnant with Escobedo's child. The baby was unharmed.
