Man, woman found dead inside Miramar home

Paramedics called after daughter discovers elderly couple

MIRAMAR, Fla. – Police are investigating after two people were found dead inside a Miramar home.

Miramar police said the bodies of Roberto Martinez, 87, and his wife, Berta Martinez, 86, were discovered Thursday morning inside a house on Southwest 173rd Terrace in the Silver Lakes community.

Police said paramedics were called to a medical emergency at the home after the couple's daughter found her parents unresponsive about 11:30 a.m. She said one of them wasn't breathing.

"It's a little scary, you know? It's right next door to my house," the couple's neighbor, Stefano Karagiaouris, said.

Miramar police spokeswoman Tania Rues said there were no apparent wounds on the couple, and carbon-monoxide tests were negative.

"There was medication found in the area," Rues said.

Rues said the medical examiner's office will determine the cause of death, but police do not suspect foul play.

"I know they were elderly but it's kind of weird how they died at the same time," Karagiaouris said.
