Dispute leads to gunfire, 1 killed in Southwest Miami-Dade

The shooting happened just steps away from an elementary school

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – One person is dead following a shooting in Southwest Miami-Dade, police said.

According to their investigation, several men "were involved in a dispute that escalated to shots being fired," Miami-Dade police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta said.

When officers arrived at the scene, at Southwest 132nd Avenue and 18th Street, Sunday night, they found a person dead.

Police did not release any information about a possible suspect but said they were gathering information and leads.

Local 10's Hatzel Vela said detectives searched the side of Joe Hall Elementary school, which sits on a plot of land at Tamiami Lakes Park. The search involved a K-9 unit.
