Young girl possibly molested in Miami Beach porta-potty

Crime reported Sunday night

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Miami Beach police are investigating a report of a young girl being molested in a porta-potty over the weekend.

Police said the incident happened about 7 p.m. Sunday in a fenced-in construction site between the beach and the Alto Del Mar neighborhood just south of North Shore Open Space Park.

According to an incident report, the girl's father was with his four children behind the park when he realized that his daughter was nowhere to be seen.

He said he saw the girl coming out of the bushes on to the boardwalk just south of 79th Street holding hands with a man. Detectives said the girl's father yelled out to his daughter and the man started running south on the boardwalk.

Police said the girl's father chased the man north on Collins Avenue, where he was last seen possibly going west toward Harding Avenue between 79th Street and 80th Street.

Police eventually found the girl alone, and said she claimed that the man had held a knife to her and took her to a portable bathroom at the construction site.

A young mother who lives nearby told Local 10 News that her son slept with a hammer Sunday night after hearing about the attack.

Witnesses told police that they saw the girl's father chasing the man, but said the man had a good lead on him.

On Monday, police were seen taking DNA swabs from some men in the area.

The only description given of the attacker in the report is that he is between the ages of 25 and 35, has light brown hair and is between 5 feet 3 inches and 5 feet 6 inches tall.

Police said they went door to door Monday, hoping residents in the area have surveillance video of the man.
