Teen in custody after Miami-Dade police chase stolen car

Several vehicles damaged during chase

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. ā€“ A 14-year-old boy is in custody after Miami-Dade police chased a car Thursday morning that they believed was stolen.

According to authorities, police spotted the maroon Ford Fusion at Northwest 14th Avenue and 79th Street and attempted to pull it over.

Police said the driver fled and crashed into several cars before crashing at a dead end at Northwest 76th Street and 11th Avenue.

"I see him running across the field with a woman's pocketbook in his hand," witness Barbara Thompson said. "Then I said to myself, 'He's really stupid. This is a dead-end.' Why would he try to come down this street."

Sky 10 was above a nearby apartment complex shortly before 10 a.m. as the teen was taken into custody.

A woman who arrived to the area shortly after the arrest told Local 10 News that the car was stolen from her aunt's home.

Police said the victim was helping her elderly aunt walk to the car, when the boy jumped into the driver's seat and crashed through the gate of the home.

Police said the teen struck an officer's car and two other vehicles while trying to escape from officers.
