DANIA BEACH, Fla. – A driver is dead after a crash that shut down a stretch of Interstate 595 near Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

The crash was reported early Friday morning in the eastbound lanes of I-595 near U.S. Highway 1.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Alexaray Rivas, 23, of Cutler Bay was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer when she lost control for some reason, causing the SUV to overturn.

Rivas was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

A passenger in the SUV, Kenyhon Francis, 21, of Homestead, was also taken to the hospital, but he was not seriously injured.

The north and southbound entrance ramps to I-595 from Interstate 95 were closed for several hours as a result of the crash. All lanes reopened about 9:30 a.m.
