Boynton Beach police spokeswoman Stephanie Slater said the witness reported that the engine was left on and no one else was in the car.

When officers arrived, the witness and Huiza were standing next to the car. An officer noticed the baby in the child seat alone in the car, Slater said.

After the witness said the baby was unattended for 15 to 20 minutes, Huiza replied, "It was only 10 minutes," Slater said.

Police checked the supermarket's surveillance video and found that Huiza left the boy alone for 17 minutes.

Paramedics were called to check on the baby before his father came to get him.

Huiza was released from jail on a $4,500 bond.

The Florida Department of Children and Families was notified.
