MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A man was rushed to Kendall Regional Medical Center Monday after he was struck by a car near Florida International University’s main campus in southwest Miami-Dade County.

The crash was reported just before 4:30 a.m. across the street from the Modesto A. Maidique campus at Southwest Eighth Street and 109th Avenue.

Authorities said the victim, Adonis Torres, 20, was struck in the westbound lanes of Eighth Street while crossing the road when the driver had a green light.

The driver fled the scene. Police said they are still looking for that person and a silver Infinity M45 with partial tag X20.

FIU officials said Torres is not a student at the university, although police said he may have been walking to an apartment near the campus at the time.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
