Detectives said Saint Louis and the victim were involved in a verbal altercation Friday in the 200 block of East Sample Road when both men pulled out handguns.

Deputies said Saint Louis' girlfriend drove off, and the other man followed them to try to get the license plate number.

According to the report, the couple stopped in the middle of the road, causing the victim to lose control of his car and crash into the parking lot of North Broward Hospital.

Deputies said the couple fled the scene, but Saint Louis pulled the emergency brake on his girlfriend's car, forcing her to stop, and walked to where the victim was to continue their confrontation.

Deputies said the victim was shot in the left bicep.

According to detectives, Saint Louis claimed that the victim was chasing him and his girlfriend and posed a threat to them because he was armed with a handgun. But detectives said Saint Louis could not justify why he decided to return to the crash scene to escalate the encounter with the victim.

Saint Louis was arrested on an attempted premeditated murder charge.
