Miami police investigate suspicious package found at Bank of America

Bomb squad to determine whether package is dangerous

MIAMI – Miami police were called to reports of a suspicious package found Monday morning near a Bank of America.

The incident was reported at about 8:30 a.m. at a bank near Northwest 36th Street and 13th Avenue.

Police said their bomb squad was called in to determine whether the contents inside the backpack found near a tree by the bank were dangerous.

Police said a perimeter was set up as soon as authorities arrived, and the area was blocked off for about two hours.

A robot  inspected the backpack and then placed it in the middle of the street. Within a few minutes, the contents inside were blown up.

"I jumped," witness Ingrid Zaldiva told Local 10 News.

Zaldiva said she wasn't scared.

"If it was really a bomb, we wouldn't be standing out there the way we were all standing out there watching it," she said.

It's unclear what was inside the backpack.
