Teachers head to Capitol for education rally

Trip organized by United Teachers of Dade.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A group of teachers boarded several buses Wednesday to travel to Tallahassee for a rally on education. The trip is organized by the United Teachers of Dade.

Seven-hundred-thirty teachers and school workers from Miami-Dade will gather on the steps of the Capitol on Thursday. They want to raise awareness on several issues including standardized testing, overall funding and the future of teacher pay.

"We used to be well-respected," said Antonio White, a teacher at Jose Marti MAST Academy.

According to the union, teachers who are taking part in the trip had to secure substitutes for their classes.

The legislative session began on Tuesday.
