Bicyclist struck by vehicle in Pompano Beach was already dead, deputies say

Deputies find Christopher Batista, 35, laying in road

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Authorities are investigating after a bicyclist was found dead in Pompano Beach early Tuesday morning.

Deputies were called to the 600 block of East Copans Road. When they arrived they found Christopher Batista in the roadway.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, Batista was already laying in the road when Darryl W. Henderson, 58, struck him with his 2000 Lincoln Continental.

Deputies said there was no evidence that Batista was struck by any vehicle prior to being struck by Henderson.

Henderson remained at the scene.

Deputies said the medical examiner's office will determine the cause and manner of Batista's death.
