Man hides in store, robs employees after closing time

Newly released surveillance video shows armed robbery at Deals in West Park

WEST PARK, Fla. – Newly released surveillance video shows an armed robbery that was reported days before Christmas after closing time.

Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said the robber entered Deals at 1959 S. State Road 7 in West Park about 11 p.m. Dec. 23 and hid inside the store until it closed.

The employee and assistant manager went inside the office to count the money from the registers and close up for the day when, about an hour later, the automatic lights shut off and the women heard a loud bang outside the door.

Concepcion said the assistant manager opened the door and was confronted by a large man who was armed with a handgun.

The man, who was wearing a red bandana over his face and purple latex gloves, ordered both women to the floor. Surveillance video shows him standing over one employee, while pointing the gun at her, and demanding money from the safe.

Concepcion said the assistant manager placed thousands of dollars in bills and coins inside a paper bag that the robber threw at her.

She said he then told the women to lay face down on the floor and count to 100 before he ran off. Concepcion said the man arrived at the store in a red Infiniti FX22.

Anyone with information about the man's identity is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
