BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – A new program aimed at helping first responders get vital information from drivers and passengers in a crash or medical crisis was launched Monday by Broward County Mayor Marty Kiar and the Broward Sheriff's Office.
As part of the Yellow Dot Motorist Medical Information Program, drivers are asked to display a Yellow Dot decal on their car's rear windshield or in a clearly visible location on a motorcycle.
First responders will know by the decal to search for the Yellow Dot pamphlet in the vehicle's glove compartment, which will include information that an unconscious patient wouldn't be able to tell first responders, and which might be helpful in helping authorities decide how to treat a person.
"This program will save lives by providing vital information to first responders when accident victims may be unable to communicate for themselves. Enrollment in this program is voluntary, quick and easy, and it's now available in Broward County," Kiar said.
"We support Mayor Kiar's passion for the Yellow Dot program and recognize that any tools that can assist our responders in rendering emergency medical care will prove beneficial," Sheriff Scott Israel said.
