Man dead after train collision in Hollywood

Police say driver tried to beat train, went around crossing arms

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A man is dead after his car was struck by a train in Hollywood.

The crash happened at Monroe Street and South Dixie Highway early Sunday morning.

Police said the man tried to go around the crossing arms to beat the train when his car was struck.

The Florida East Coast Railway train was traveling from Jacksonville to Hialeah when the crash occurred. 

The victim, believed to be in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
