MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Five Miami-Dade County residents have been arrested in connection with a cargo theft ring.

Miami-Dade police said the suspects are responsible for stealing more than $1.2 million worth of merchandise in eight different cargo thefts throughout Florida.

According to detectives, the suspects traveled from Miami-Dade County in a rental car to search for tractor-trailers they could easily steal. Once the cargo and trailers were both stolen, the suspects would return to Miami to sell the merchandise on the black market, authorities said.

Multiple law enforcement agencies began investigating the suspects in September 2014, and four of the five were arrested last month in Jacksonville.

They have been identified by police as Cecilio Guillen, 46, Alcide Fraguela-Casanova, 56, Juan Carlos Almaguer, 42, and Yanier Torres, 30.

The fifth suspect, Julio Vega, 53, was arrested Tuesday.

All five face charges of racketeering conspiracy and grand theft cargo.
