Detectives identify off-duty worker killed at Port Everglades

Alden Waugh, 75, run over by tractor-trailer Wednesday afternoon


PORT EVERGLADES, Fla. – The Broward Sheriff's Office has identified an off-duty worker who was killed Wednesday afternoon by a tractor-trailer as 75-year-old Alden Waugh.

Detectives said Waugh had just finished his shift at the container yard at 5 p.m. when he was struck by a tractor-trailer at the entrance of the yard.

Deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue rushed to the Sun Terminals container yard at 4000 McIntosh Road and pronounced Waugh dead at the scene.

Detectives said the driver, Jorge Medina-Lopez, 48, was approaching the checkpoint when Waugh walked into the path of the vehicle.

No charges have been filed.
