Teen arrested after stealing car with sleeping baby inside, police say

Police say 16-year-old's fingerprints found in stolen car

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A 16-year-old boy accused of stealing a car with a sleeping baby inside was arrested Friday.

Fort Lauderdale police Detective Tracy Figone said Brian Jean was identified by fingerprints found in the stolen car.

A handcuffed Jean was escorted by two police officers to Broward Health Medical Center for a medical evaluation.

Figone said a woman went inside the LaundroMax to drop off laundry and left her car's engine on Monday when the teenager drove off in the car. Sleeping in the back seat was 10-month-old Yareli Velasco.

The stolen car was later found about eight miles away near McNab Road and Powerline Road. Yareli was safe inside.

Jean was later transferred to a juvenile detention facility.
