The city, in consultation with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, issued a precautionary advisory Tuesday to avoid water-related recreational activities in the area.

Officials said swimming, fishing, jet-skiing and other water-related activities should be avoided in a section of the New River 2,000 feet west to 2,000 feet east of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, along the New River from Northwest Seventh Avenue to Northwest Fourth Avenue.

The precautionary advisory will remain in effect until further notice, officials said.
