DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – The attacks are coming fast and furious on Donald Trump, from his own Republican Party to "Saturday Night Live."
However, Deerfield Beach attorney Peter Ticktin isn’t laughing, instead he’s defending Trump.
Ticktin said that he knows Trump like few others and that people are getting the wrong impression of his friend.
"To call this man a bigot or to suggest he plays for the white supremacists, that’s just not happening he doesn’t think that way," Ticktin said.
When Trump was a captain at the all-male New York Military Academy in 1964, where he was top baseball player and was known as the "ladies man" of the school, Ticktin was his platoon sergeant and lived and worked with Trump.
"We had the first African-Americans come into our school our senior year," said Ticktin.
He said that desegregation of the military school wasn't easy.
"I was disgusted by some of the people, the way they behaved towards them it was horrible," Ticktin said. "Horrible talking about that word, using it and Donald was just as aghast and disgusted by it as I was."
Yet Trump rallies sometimes indicate otherwise, as black attendants have been physically forced out, and addressed by racial slurs – the same goes with members of other racial, ethnic and religious minority groups.
There’s also Trump's failure to condemn the KKK on CNN last week.
"Believe me this man is not a bigot," Ticktin said. "He has disavowed the KKK."
Ticktin wrote a recent Facebook post about Trump that is going viral with nearly 25,000 shares.
"He doesn’t take defeat as an alternative that’s acceptable," Ticktin said.
When asked if he thinks that Trump is doing whatever it takes to win Ticktin responded with a no.
"You’re misunderstanding him altogether," he said, "He’s doing what he’s doing because he’s going to say it the way he’s going to say it."
