Ben Carson endorses Donald Trump at Palm Beach news conference

Former rival, West Palm Beach resident has 'buried the hatchet' with Trump

PALM BEACH, Fla. – Dr. Ben Carson endorsed Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump during a news conference Friday morning in Palm Beach.

Carson, a West Palm Beach resident who recently dropped out of the presidential race, appeared with Trump at the Mar-a-Lago Club.

"There's two different Donald Trumps," Carson said. "There's the one you see on the stage and there's the one whose very cerebral, sits there and considers things very carefully. … That's the Donald Trump that you're going to start seeing more and more of."

Carson said he has "buried the hatchet" with Trump.

"We have to start working together," Carson said. "We cannot allow the agents of division to continue to separate us."

The retired neurosurgeon becomes the second former Republican presidential candidate to officially back Trump. Last month, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie endorsed the Republican front-runner.

Carson said he was given no assurances of being Trump's running mate.
