Brush fire reported in west Miami-Dade

Fire 30 percent contained, officials say

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A brush fire was reported Friday afternoon in west Miami-Dade.

Sky 10 was above the scene just west of Florida's Turnpike at Northwest Sixth Street at 5:30 p.m. and saw heavy smoke rising up from the wooded area.

While the fire was burning through a wide area, no homes or buildings were nearby.

Division of Forestry spokesman Gabriel Llamas said a ranger spotted the fire about 1 p.m. He said firefighters are currently hampered by dry conditions but three units are at the scene working to fully contain the fire.

The fire has burned about 175 acres and is 30 percent contained.
