Woman attacked while walking in Coral Gables

Police search for attacker

CORAL GABLES, Fla. ā€“ Coral Gables police are searching for a man who sexually battered and robbed a woman Sunday morning.

The woman was walking in the 1300 block of Granada Boulevard just before 7 a.m. when someone grabbed her, sexually battered her and then robbed her, police said.

Police describe the attacker as a 35-year-old man, who stands between 5 feet 8 and 5 feet 10, weighs 170 pounds, with a medium build, bald with brown eyes and bushy eyebrows.Ā

According to neighbors, the area is mostly full of retirees and families. They said it's a quiet neighborhood that is not immune to crime.

"I saw the crime scene tape," resident Alina Artiles said. "I mean, it was scary. I don't like it, but what are you going to do? That's life in the big city."

"We have to cooperate with each other. If you see something, you talk, you call the police and I'm going to keep my eyes open," another resident, Pablo Rodriguez, said.

The attacker was last seen driving an older-model white SUV or van. He was wearing a white crew neck T-shirt, blue jeans, a belt and blue-and-yellow sneakers.Ā

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Coral Gables Police Department at 305-442-1600 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.Ā
