9-year-old girl burned while playing with flare gun, authorities say

Child being watched by 17-year-old sibling at Lauderhill home

A 9-year-old girl was taken to a hospital Friday after she burned her hand with a flare gun, authorities said.

The incident was reported at a home on Northwest 24th Street off 42nd Avenue in Lauderhill.

Police said the girl was in the care of her 17-year-old sibling. They said the child was playing with a flare gun when it went off.

The girl suffered a minor burn to her hand.

Police said both siblings were taken to an area hospital.

No other details were immediately released.
