KEY WEST, Fla. ā€“ A man from Sugarloaf Key was arrested Wednesday night after he pointed a gun at a Big Pine Key couple who were riding their motorcycle on the Seven Mile Bridge, authorities said.

According to Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin, the incident began at 6:15 p.m. when Matthew Ferro, 75, passed the couple in his Cadillac pickup truck.

Herrin said the couple, Christy and Robert Velasquez, passed the truck at the Bahia Honda State Park bridge, but the truck passed the motorcycle again and rude gestures were exchanged.

The couple told deputies that the last time Ferro passed them, the truck forced them onto the shoulder of the road and they almost crashed their motorcycle.

Herrin said both vehicles continued south and Ferro pulled up beside the couple at the intersection of Key Deer Boulevard and U.S. Highway 1 and a verbal confrontation ensued.

Herrin said the couple claims that Ferro pulled out a gun and pointed it at them, so they called 911.

Two deputies pulled Ferro over at the 23 mile marker and said they found a fully loaded Ruger revolver on the floorboard of the truck.

Ferro was arrested on three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
