Driver of stolen flatbed truck in custody after expressway chase

Truck strikes police vehicle, message board, light pole, police say

DORAL, Fla. – The driver of a stolen flatbed truck with a forklift attached to the end of it led police on a chase Monday night, Doral police said.

Police said the truck was reported missing about 8 p.m. from a business in the 8300 block of Northwest 27th Street.

Officers found the vehicle on the road and attempted to pull it over near Northwest 79th Avenue and Northwest 25th Street, police said, but instead of stopping, the driver struck a police vehicle and fled.

"He took off with little regards to life or property," Lt. Orlando Sanchez told Local 10 News.

The driver then got on the Palmetto Expressway and began to head south, police said. He then got onto the Dolphin Expressway, heading west, and got off on Northwest 107th Avenue.

During the chase, the driver struck a message board, a light pole and another vehicle, police said.

It was at  the Northwest 107 Avenue exit where the driver went over the median and went against traffic, hitting a palm tree in the process, police said.

He was ultimately stopped underneath the Dolphin Expressway and taken into custody.
