FHP says car drove onto shoulder to avoid slowing traffic

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A surveyor was struck and killed by a car Friday afternoon on Interstate 95.

The crash occurred in the northbound lanes of I-95 near the Atlantic Boulevard exit.

Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Mark Wyscoky said the driver of the car went onto the shoulder to avoid slowing traffic in the far right lane and struck a member of a survey team on the highway.

A view from Sky 10 showed a badly damaged car stopped in the middle of the highway.

The victim was taken to Broward Health North, where he was pronounced dead.

Traffic was backed up for miles as a result of the crash.

Troopers said the driver could face charges in connection with the fatal crash.
