Student stabbed at Westland Hialeah Senior High School

Police say 15-year-old freshman stabbed 18-year-old senior during bathroom fight

HIALEAH, Fla. – A student was stabbed Tuesday during a fight in a bathroom at Westland Hialeah Senior High School.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools spokeswoman Daisy Gonzalez-Diego said two teenagers -- a freshman and a senior -- got into a fight. She said the freshman boy pulled out a small blade and cut the other teen.

School police arrested the 15-year-old boy on a charge of aggravated battery.

The 18-year-old senior was taken to Palmetto General Hospital to be treated for cuts to his chest and arms. He was expected to be OK.

"You never know how someone could react," student Stephanie Lopez told Local 10 News.

Police said the 15-year-old used an X-Acto knife to stab the other teen.

Student Jonathan Borrego said he witnessed part of the altercation. He said the teens went into the bathroom to settle a disagreement.

"There was no reason for them to fight," Borrego said.
