FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Broward Crime Stoppers announced a new initiative Thursday to fight terrorism.
"Terrorism will not go away on its own," Crime Stoppers President Paul Jaworski said.
Paris, Brussels and San Bernardino serve as a reminder that we must keep our eyes opened and ears always listening.
"We see this as being part of a force multipliers effect," FBI Special Agent in Charge Xanthie Mangum said.
So from now on, Broward Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for any tips related to terrorists or terrorist activities.
"Every tip is critical, and that's why this program is so important," Mangum said.
To be eligible, callers have to remain anonymous, and the tip has to lead to arrests and prosecution.
Crime Stoppers officials said terrorists are now working social media to get their messages across, so Crime Stoppers is using Facebook, Twitter and box truck advertising to get the word out about its new program.
"They're very, very advanced, very sophisticated," Mangum said. "We're seeing young men and women that are very agile on social media."
