Police say intruders struck victim on head with gun
HIALEAH, Fla. – Police have arrested two men accused of forcing their way inside a Hialeah home and injuring a 76-year-old man who answered the door.
The home-invasion robbery was reported about 3 p.m. Monday at 589 E. 52nd St.
Hialeah police Sgt. Carl Zogby said Alexander Javier Vega, 21, and an another armed man, also in his 20s, struck the 76-year-old man in the head with a gun and demanded money from him.
Zogby said the victim's 20-year-old granddaughter was in the home when she was confronted by the gunmen. Zogby said they were able to take some cash and jewelry before running out of the home.
A 911 call led to their apprehension a few blocks away, where police spotted them running.
The victim was taken to Palmetto General Hospital in stable condition. His granddaughter wasn't injured.
