16-year-old dies after shot multiple times in Miami Gardens, police say

Motive for shooting remains unclear

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A 16-year-old boy died Friday after being shot earlier in the morning in Miami Gardens, authorities said.

The shooting was reported at 12:45 a.m. in the area of Northwest Seventh Place off 181st Terrace.

"I was in the bed and I just heard gunshots, and when I came outside it was like so many police and they said somebody was shot, and I just walked down there, but I don't know who the person is," neighbor Joshua Zinnerman said.

Police said the victim, Joshua Cadet, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

"Sadly and inexplicably, another teenager fell prey to the carnage of gun violence in our community," Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho posted on Twitter. "Prevention and intervention is a must."

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue took Cadet to Hollywood Memorial Hospital, where he was first listed in critical condition. He died later in the day.

A motive for the shooting is unclear.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Detective Pedro Valdes at 305-474-1454. Anonymous tips can be made to Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
