Woman says nearly $20,000 worth of valuables stolen from car after valeting it in Miami Beach

Incident reported Sunday outside Yardbird Southern Table & Bar

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A woman says she is outraged after luggage was stolen from her vehicle after she valet parked it at a Miami Beach restaurant.

The incident was reported Sunday outside Yardbird Southern Table & Bar, at 1600 Lenox Ave.

According to the victim, she had her car valeted by BeachFront Parking for $10.

She said she and three friends were enjoying brunch at the restaurant when her car was burglarized.

"You feel so helpless. It's shocking," the woman, who did not want to be identified, said.

The brazen thief broke into her Ford Explorer not once, but twice.

Surveillance video shows him smashing the window of her car and then leaving when another car pulls into the parking lot. He comes back minutes later to finish the job.

The woman claims cars have been broken into in the same parking lot three times in a two month period, but no action has been taken by the restaurant or valet company. A valet attendant told Local 10 News reporter Jenise Fernandez that similar vehicle burglaries are reported often.

But the victim said the valet company told her that the back of the ticket clearly states that vehicles are parked at the owner's own risk and the company is not liable.

The victim claims that nine pieces of luggage were stolen from her car, which contained passports, visas, designer handbags, three laptops, an iPad, jewelry, clothing and shoes.

She said the total loss is nearly $20,000.

"Just to have all that taken so quickly and have no one responsible for it -- it's incredible. It's insane. It's horrifying really, and you feel so violated," the victim said.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
