Man with knife in mouth stunned after jumping on car on Palmetto Expressway

Woman drives with man on hood, flags down 2 troopers

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A man who jumped onto a woman's car with a knife in his mouth is being evaluated at a hospital.

The incident happened about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday on the Palmetto Expressway.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man may have been under the influence of alcohol or may have a mental condition.

Trooper Joe Sanchez said the woman noticed the man flagging down some drivers after his car broke down in the westbound lanes at Northwest 57th Avenue. When she slowed down, the man jumped on the hood of her car.

Sanchez said the woman continued to travel eastbound on the expressway with the man on the hood of her car and was eventually able to flag down two off-duty troopers.

The man got into an altercation with troopers, who used a stun gun to subdue him.

"Things like this don't happen every day out on the Palmetto," Sanchez said.

The incident caused the eastbound lanes to be shut down at Northwest 57th Avenue for more than an hour.

Nobody was hurt.
