Michael James, 27, shot multiple times by police

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A man who was shot by Hollywood police Wednesday stabbed his wife to death for being disloyal, authorities said.

He said he was armed with a Smith & Wesson handgun and was wearing a bloody gray T-shirt, the report said.

Police set up a perimeter around the home as James paced around the front porch, authorities said.

Police said he eventually left the porch and charged at an officer who fired his gun multiple times at James after James refused verbal commands to stop.

Another officer fired one round from his gun, police said.

James was struck multiple times and collapsed next to a police vehicle.

While being taken into custody police asked James if anyone was still inside the home and he said, "No. It was just me and my dead wife," the report said.

Police said they asked James about the handgun he claimed he had and James said, "There is no gun. I stabbed her."

James was taken to Hollywood Memorial Regional Hospital in stable condition.

Hollywood police's SWAT unit entered the home and saw smoke coming from a bedroom.

Officers found James' wife, Latoya James, 27, dead on the bed with multiple stab wounds to her back, neck and head.

Police said James told the dispatcher that he killed his wife on their roommate's bed for not being loyal.

James faces charges of premeditated murder and arson.
