Woman heartbroken after former partner found dead at Cutler Bay storage facility

Laura Cuni, 54, killed inside office of Public Storage, police say

CUTLER BAY, Fla. – A South Florida woman says she is distraught after her former long-term partner and friend was found dead inside an office at a Public Storage in Cutler Bay.

"It really broke my heart. It's still hurting, you know?" Rosario Simon said. "They don't know who they killed. It's somebody else given to this world to give to the people."

Laura Cuni, 54, who also lived at an apartment on the Public Storage property, was discovered by Miami-Dade police officers early Friday.

A law enforcement source told Local 10 News that Cuni was found tied up and beaten to death inside a back office.

Officers said a woman who was temporarily staying with Cuni called them when she didn't return to the apartment after her shift ended.

"In the back of my mind, I say whoever did it knew her," Simon said.

But Simon said she doesn't know who would want to take Cuni's life or why.

She said while they weren't together anymore, Cuni was a wonderful soul.

"I'm sure she fought for her life," Simon said.

Simon said everyone who knew Cuni wants the questions about the killing answered.

"Why? What was the reason behind it, you know? That's all we want to know for her family's sake and for her friends' sake," Simon said.

No arrests have been made, and a motive is unknown.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
